Core concepts
This page covers the fundamental concepts and design principles behind Linked API, providing the foundation you need to build effective integrations.
How results represent LinkedIn data – URL normalization, URNs, viewer state, time zones and missing values – is described in Data Conventions. How workflows run one at a time and how long they take is in Workflows Overview.
How the API is organized
Linked API has two kinds of endpoints:
- Account endpoints work on behalf of one connected LinkedIn account, chosen by the
identification-tokenheader:- workflows do something on LinkedIn now – search, open a profile, send a message or a connection request;
- signals (coming soon) will tell you when something happens – a new post, a comment, an accepted invitation;
- workflow results – and, once signals launch, signal events – can be polled or received as webhook events.
- Admin API endpoints manage your Linked API account itself: subscription, seats, connected accounts, limits and webhooks. They respond immediately and need only the
linked-api-tokenheader.
One account, one browser
Each connected LinkedIn account works in its own cloud browser, at the pace of a real user, and runs one thing at a time. Everything it does stays inside the account's working hours and spends its limits. Once signals launch, their checks will share the same browser, running between your workflows.
Limits management
LinkedIn limits vary depending on your account's age, social selling index, subscription (e.g., Sales Navigator), and other factors.
It is your responsibility to understand and follow the limits appropriate for your account.
To help you stay within safe boundaries, Linked API allows you to configure action limits for each connected account directly from the platform dashboard. When a workflow contains an action that would exceed a configured limit, that action will return a limitExceeded error instead of executing.
You can also manage limits programmatically via the Admin API, monitor your activity, check SSI, and review our guide on LinkedIn limits.
